I THINK it's clear that we're going to have to win our last three matches to be certain of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the NatWest T20 Blast following Friday's defeat at Nottinghamshire.

It's going to be a difficult task – but we've played some brilliant cricket recently and I'm confident that we can continue that over the next week and a bit to give ourselves a chance.

We played the majority of cricket at Notts. Unfortunately, it only went away from us when Samit Patel and Chris Read recovered them from 102-6 chasing 161.

We could have done with ten more runs with the bat and saved ten in the field. Then, we'd have won.

I want to touch on the comments I made after the game about a decision from umpire Martin Saggers in the fifth over of the Notts' chase, relating to me being outside the 30-yard ring at mid-on.

Because you are only allowed two men outside the ring inside the power play, it was given as a no ball by Martin, who was standing at square leg.

It ended up costing us 12 runs we could ill-afford to lose when all was said and done. We conceded a single and one for the no ball. The free hit was then hit for four and the extra ball at the end of the over was hit for six.

I made some comments which were in the heat of the moment about it being a terrible decision and the umpire not doing his job properly, which I regret.

I was disappointed at the time, given it was a tough call to make in a big game, and I think Martin's a very good umpire. I am very confident I was inside the circle – but we have to get on with it now and concentrate on trying to qualify.

Our qualification hopes in the T20 form part of what should be an exciting two or three weeks, with the Royal London Cup group stage also reaching a climax, a competition we are nicely placed in.

We've played well in the white-ball stuff for the last month or so now. If we can keep doing that then you never know, we might qualify for the quarter-finals of both competitions.

We have said goodbye to our overseas player Kane Williamson, who left us after Friday. I know he's not scored the runs that he would have wanted but his runs are only part of the package that he offers.

He's been brilliant to have around the dressing room. He speaks so well with the boys and adds so much to the team. He's invaluable.

I know there were a few raised eyebrows when he missed last week's Championship match at Surrey due to mental fatigue but it was a decision we were completely understanding of at the club, given his schedule.

The argument is that if somebody in a nine to five job did it for three years solid without hardly having a break, they'll want a little bit of time to themselves at some point.

The Zimbabwe tour he's due to start any time now got brought forward and he's going to have very little time off in the next six to seven months, maybe as little as a week or so.

If you look at it that way, I don't think anybody can begrudge him some time away, particularly if he feels it's in the best interests of the team. That's what Kane is about – the team.

You've got to take into account that international cricketers are playing 12 months of the year and Kane has played for the last three or four years with very little time off. It's testament to Kane that he's played for so long without a break.

In the long run, this last week will have been good for him ahead of his first Test tour as New Zealand's official captain.

We loving having him here and hopefully he comes back at some point, even if it is only for a similar period for what we've just had him. At Yorkshire, we love having him around. He's everything we want in an overseas player.

But his departure opens the door for Travis Head, who started well at Notts on Friday with his 40. It should be an exciting couple of months for him.
