MALTON & NORTON and Selby collide in derby day duty in Yorkshire One tomorrow (kick off 2.15pm).

The Gannock will host the clash between two teams renewing rivalries following Malton’s period in North One East.

The hosts have enjoyed the better start to the campaign, winning six of their eight matches so far.

And they are now only trailing unbeaten leaders Doncaster Phoenix in the table.

Selby, meanwhile, picked up an important victory over Hullensians last week as they continued their yo-yo term of wins and losses in recent weeks.

Malton are coming off a derby success over Scarborough last time out and club spokesman Bill Laidler said having a settled team was allowing the club to get results.

“Malton’s pack looked like a well-drilled unit while Scarborough, with some good players in their ranks, looked towards individual effort,” he reflected on the Scarborough win.

“Young half-backs Paul Angus and Nick Daley, along with others, came of age in this game, but it is as a team that Malton base their success and this was a magnificent team effort.”

Laidler added: “Scarborough were very ineffective but that was the best we have played all season - right through the side.

“It will be two or three years since we last played Selby but they are always a hard side - a tough team to crack.”

But in a run of healthy consistency in the Malt ranks, Laidler added: “For the fourth week on the trot we will have the same side.”
