YORK golf ace Simon Dyson has jetted out to China to compete in one of the globe’s top celebrity events.
Dyson is one of a handful of leading pros lined up to compete in the World Celebrity Pro-Am which will take place at the Mission Hills Haikou course on the tropical island of Hainan from this Friday through to Sunday.
The world number 99 will be rubbing shoulders with Hollywood superstars and sporting legends for the golf year’s biggest sports and entertainment spectacular.
Among the celebrities will be top Hollywood actors Morgan Freeman and Nicole Kidman, European Champions League’s most decorated player Clarence Seedorf and retired Chinese basketball star Yao Ming, who starred for the Houston Rockets in America’s National Basketball Association.
The 24 professional golfers, who will be vying for a prize fund totalling more than $1 million, include Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, Ryder Cup ace and major winner Justin Rose, plus Gary Player, Greg Norman and Ian Woosnam.
The event will also include for the first time a tournament of foot-golf - a combination of football and golf.
Each celebrity will be paired with a professional golfer and the teams will face off over two rounds of four-ball better-ball.
