YORK Acorn ARLC gave leaders Oulton Raiders a major scare in division one of the National Conference League.

The Blue and Golds led 10-8 at the break and extended their advantage to 22-14 heading into the final quarter, but the Raiders grabbed three late tries to snatch the points.

The Thanett Road hosts opened the scoring on 14 minutes when Jordan Myres beat two defenders to offload to Tim Elliott ,who pushed the full-back out of the way en route to the try line.

Oulton hit back five minutes later when Acorn were penalised and Oulton moved the ball out wide for winger Scott MacDonald to level the scores.

Acorn regained possession from a short kick off and, on the fifth tackle, Joe Porter went for the power play and forced his way over, with Antony Chilton adding the extras.

On 31 minutes, a pair of penalties gave Oulton the chance to draw level again with winger Adrian Holdsworth crossing in the corner.

Four minutes after half-time, a converted try by Dom Flanagan put Oulton 14-10 in front.

On 52 minutes, Myres pounced on a neat kick from Chilton to touch down. Chilton added the extras.

Michael Embleton twice went close to scoring for the hosts before Nick Specks grubber went into the in-goal area, where Chilton was first to react for a try he also converted.

Acorn's hard work began to take its toll in the final quarter as dropped balls and missed tackles allowed Oulton to cross for three tries, through Flanagan, prop Rob Stanley and Josh Murray, who also added a conversion.

Tom Hill stood out for Acorn, but the man of the match award went to Ryan Gallacher, for another great all-round performance.
