IN-FORM York won a fifth successive game in the Foss Evening Cricket League to set up a potential title decider with Woodhouse Grange tonight.

Division one leaders and reigning champions Woodhouse travel to Clifton Park with a one point lead at the top having played one game more than York.

Londesborough Park did their best to upset the city side but came up five runs short of victory.

York made 108-8 and then a burst of 5-10 from in-form Jake Murphy had Londesborough behind the rate despite the efforts of Nathan Saltmer (30).

Park skipper Mike Drewery threw caution to the wind in a 14-ball innings of 37 that included four sixes, but was not quite enough to tip the balance.

Woodhouse Grange beat visitors Stamford Bridge by three wickets to avenge their only defeat of the season. Bridge made 67-6 and then Tom Fitzgerald took 3-19 to made life uncomfortable for Grange before they crossed the line at 69-7.

Heworth ensured early leaders Osbaldwick remain in the drop zone after a six-wicket victory over their near neighbours.

David Herd hit 35 and Sam Thompson 23 not out as Osbaldwick posted 94-4, with Tom Neal’s frugal 1-6 from three overs limiting progress.

Heworth then came home with 17 balls to spare with contributions from Rich Winterburn (30), Neal (20no) and Dan Walton (16no).

Dunnington bounced back from their collapse against Londesborough with an 11-run success against winless Melbourne.

A number of Dunnington batsmen got a start but nobody went on to make a big score in their 103-5. Melbourne’s reply was based around another good score from Alex Romaniw (37no), but Dunnington were able to restrict the hosts to 92-3.
