York Press: Solid start to Simon Dyson’s BMW bid Solid start to Simon Dyson’s BMW bid

GUT instinct enabled York’s Simon Dyson to enjoy a solid impact in the BMW International Open in Germany.

The world number 151 was tied with 12 others in 34th place going into today’s second round at the Golf Club Gut Larchenhof course on three-under-par 69.

And there was a further Yorkshire bonus when Danny Willett, who is coached by The Oaks Golf Club head professional Graham Walker, held the lead on eight-under alongside Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello.

Malton & Norton GC’s Dyson began his first round on the tenth hole and was soon making inroads.

He birdied the opener, plus the 13th and 14th holes, though that electric start was marred by a dropped shot on the 16th.

Dyson then went to four-under with success on the second and fourth holes only for his second bogey of the day on the fifth to pin him back to 69, five shots off the lead.

Willett, who hails from South Yorkshire but has received years of coaching from Walker at the Aughton-based Oaks club, posted a blemish-free round to smell of roses at the Cologne-based course.

His 18 holes was highlighted by no fewer than five birdies on the inward nine in his overall 64 to head the scoreboard with Cabrera-Bello going into today’s round.
