YORKSHIRE shrugged off the loss of yet another key player to international call-ups by delivering an impressive display to dismiss Nottinghamshire before tea on the opening day of their championship match at Headingley.

Denied the services of Liam Plunkett because of his call-up to England’s first Test squad, Yorkshire demonstrated their strength in depth by dismissing Nottinghamshire for 205 in only 56 overs despite them winning the toss and deciding to bat first.

They struggled to cope on a bouncy pitch which earned Tim Bresnan and Jack Brooks three wickets apiece and only a 65-run ninth wicket stand gave Nottinghamshire’s total a degree of respectability.

Their hopes of reaching a competitive total were ended when former Yorkshire batsman Michael Lumb and Nottinghamshire captain Chris Read fell in successive overs shortly after lunch.

They had added 45 for the sixth wicket when Lumb was undone by the extra bounce from the wicket and edged Bresnan behind down the leg-side and Read followed shortly after when he was run out after driving to mid-off only for substitute fielder Josh Shaw to parry the ball and allow Jack Leaning to throw down the stumps from mid-on.

Australian Test batsman Siddle finished unbeaten on 39 off 35 balls, which included two fours and two sixes, but ran out of partners with Fletcher and last man Andre Adams both being caught at long on off Adil Rashid.

Yorkshire made only one change for today’s encounter with Richard Pyrah coming in for his first championship match in a year as a replacement for Plunkett.
