HOLGATE WMC took advantage of a week off for Holgate by closing the gap on the leaders in the York Amateur Bowling Association division one.

They dismissed third-placed Dringhouses 7-1. RI Amateurs got their first win of the season with a convincing 7-1 win over Hull Road Park but they remain in the bottom two.

Dunnington moved away from the lower reaches by beating Rowntree 6.5-1.5 at home.

The last unbeaten record in division two disappeared as RI Corinthians lost heavily 7-1 away to Bootham. West Park moved to the top of the table after defeating Shipton 6-2 at home.

In division three, Osbaldwick moved up to second after an emphatic 7.5-0.5 away win at Minster. Stamford Bridge had a 6-2 home win over Poppleton Road WMC, while Scarcroft enjoyed a convincing 8-0 away victory at Retreat.

In the first round of the Williamson Cup, Selby played host to league leaders Holgate in a close and thrilling encounter.

With only one wood to play in the final rink of the match, Selby led by one shot on the aggregate, and laid a shot on the green, before Phil Parsons’ final wood turned the game around in Holgate’s favour, changing one down to two up to complete an 84-83 victory for Holgate.

The only shock of the round saw Poppleton Road WMC knock out Clifton, who played in the division above them, 68-60.
