YORK Lokomotive ARLC maintained their 100 per cent start to the Yorkshire Men’s League campaign with a hard-fought 26-12 home victory over Moldgreen.

The Lokos were first on the scoreboard when impressive full-back Matt Turner crashed over following good work from Tom Dunmore and Liam Watling, who supplied the final pass of the move despite the attention of four visiting defenders.

The Huddersfield outfit responded from the restart as they regathered the ball from the kick off and worked their way over the Lokos’ try line to take the lead with a converted try.

This spurred the home side into action and a 20-minute period of control prior to half-time brought tries for Watling, converted by Dunmore, and powerhouse second row Dave Jefferson, after a 40-metre dash to the line.

The half-time score was 14-6 and the second period was dominated by the Lokos, with hard-working forwards Chris Corr and Jon Cambridge laying the foundations for half-backs Tyler Dawson and Dunmore to work the ball around the park.

However, Lokos were shocked when Watling put in a towering kick to the Moldgreen 25 metre area, only for a visiting centre to leap highest, collect the ball and race the length of the field for a converted try.

The Lokos maintained their composure, with defensive dominance from the home side leading to Moldgreen making an error, enabling Dunmore to squeeze in for a try in the corner and he also converted.

More good work from the Lokos forwards led to captain Watling, making his 50th appearance for the club, bagging his second try of the game. Again Dunmore converted.

Chris Corr took the Lokos man of the match award, while there were good contributions from Cambridge, Joe Fish and centre Leon Ford.
