A BRILLIANT final round of 67 earned North Yorkshire golfer Simon Dyson a top-ten finish at the lucrative BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The York-born star fired six birdies and only one bogey to move up from joint-18th on the leaderboard into a tie for fifth place on nine under par.

Having birdied the fourth and fifth holes, the Malton & Norton Golf Club ace dropped a shot at the eighth. However, that was only a temporary setback as he bagged a hat-trick of birdies at the 12th, 13th and 14th.

A further birdie at the 17th hole put him level with Scotland's Stephen Gallacher on nine under.

Having followed his opening 69 with a two over par round of 74 on Friday, Dyson got back on the birdie trail on Saturday.

He picked up shots at the par five fourth hole and at the par four sixth and seventh. A dropped shot at the ninth was regained on the par five 12th.

A second bogey at the 16th was immediately followed by a birdie at the long 17th hole as Dyson moved up the leaderboard.
