YORK’S John Quantock fired a ten-dart leg in the group stages of the Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship.

Quantock, who lost in the last 16 to fellow York player Rich Corner, hit single one with his first dart but then hit eight consecutive treble 20s and finished with double 10.

Stage eight was won by Hull’s Craig Owen, beating seasoned PDC player Mark Lawrence 5-3 in the final.

Owen beat Corner 4-1 in the semi-finals, while Lawrence won by the same scoreline against Andy Wheeler.

In the quarters, Corner had a 13-darter and a 121 finish for a 12-darter in beating Scott Bennett, while fellow York player Neil Hart lost out 3-0 to Owen.

Bennett and Peter Rushby won the blind pairs, beating Russ King and Trevor Day in the final.

Tommy Hogarth, of Scarborough, was the winner of the youth knockout.

With two stages remaining and a maximum of 40 further ranking points to be won the battle for a top 48 place is hotting up.

Stage nine will be held on Saturday, May 31 and the final stage on June 7, both at Huntington WMC in York. The Grand Finals take place at Huntington on Saturday, June 28.

Meanwhile, Severus Social Club beat leaders Tramways ‘B’ 5-2 in the York Mixed Darts League to go joint-top of the table.

Dan Fairclough hit a 140 in the pairs, Dean Cairns added legs of 24 and 26 darts and Anne Meek gamed in 21 darts for Severus.

The best performers for Tramways ‘B’ were Chris Matthews, who gamed in 22 darts, and Steve Smith, who had a 23-darter.

Alex McFarlane’s legs of 20 and 22 darts could not save Tramways ‘A’ from a 5-2 defeat by Golden Slipper.

Slipper’s Phil Smith hit two 140s and two 100s, while Paul Partridge fired a 140 and a 121.

Falcon had a 5-2 success over Railway Institute, despite the efforts of Chris Bullen, who has six 100s in his games to collect both points for Institute.

Severus and Tramways top the table with 18 points from four games, with Falcon are two points behind in third place.

Slipper have 11 points from three games, while Institute are second from bottom on eight points having played three games. Basement side Tramways ‘A’ have six points from their four games.
