SELBY Town manager Dave Ricardo has issued a rallying call to fans to get behind the side after a difficult four years.

Since Bob Lyons’ reign at the club ended in 2010, the Robins have had nine managers and have been relegated to the Northern Counties East League first division, but the former Beverley Town man is confident the club can move forward under his stewardship.

He said: “This coming pre-season is vitally important to how the 2014/15 season will progress.

“I am lucky to have alongside with me an experienced guy in Chris Dickman as assistant manager and a high level coach in Mike Richardson.

“The sessions that myself and the coaches will put on will be high tempo and will replicate the style of play we aim for.

“The friendlies we have arranged are against higher opposition. However, I am confident the games will be as challenging for them as it will be for ourselves.”

He also feels that the backing of the Selby fans is vital.

“I hope the local support will come out to push the lads on,” said the Robins boss.

“I can’t get over how important this support is to the players and is sometimes the difference between winning and losing.

“I can promise the supporters both new and old that a fit, hard-working and skilful side want to achieve results not only for themselves but for each other.”

The club have announced more pre-season fixtures to complete their programme ahead of the new NCEL campaign.
