YORK City are aiming to become only the fourth club in 28 years to reach the League Two play-off final after losing their semi-final first leg at home.

That feat has only been achieved three times in 54 previous ties but there is a recent precedent with a Bradford City side, featuring former Minsterman James Meredith, recovering from a 3-2 deficit at Valley Parade last term to clinch a .5-4 aggregate win over second-leg hosts Burton.

Prior to that, Shrewsbury were the last club to fight back from a first-leg home defeat, going down 1-0 to Bury before levelling the tie at Gigg Lane and going through on penalties in 2009.

Northampton were also shoot-out victors in 2004, having trailed 2-0 at Sixfields but fought back with a 3-1 triumph against Mansfield.

From the play-offs' introduction in 1987 until 2003, no side from the Football League's lowest tier managed to overturn a losing position from a home semi-final, first leg.

Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander, meanwhile, admitted he is in two minds as he settles on his side for tonight's game.

Holding midfielder Alan Goodall is available again after a three-match suspension and whether he is recalled in place of the more-attack-minded Steven Schumacher could depend on if Alexander places a priority on defending his team's first-leg advantage rather than adding to it.

The former Scotland international said: "It does give me a headache. Alan Goodall has been a integral part of what we've done since the turn of the year so he comes into our thinking.

"Whenever he's played he's played very well and he gives us something that other players don't. But then again when Steven Schumacher plays he gives us a different angle too."
