THE Hunters York & District Senior League suffered its worst washout for several years as only two games survived the deluge.

Play was only possible in 13 games and the second innings only started in one other game, with the two completed fixtures being staged in East Yorkshire.

The only outright win was recorded by Hill Top who defeated Patrington II by 75 runs to take over as division four (East) leaders. The Toppers made 148 and then dismissed Patrington for 73.

At Cottingham, the home side had the better of a draw against Kirk Ella whose 100-6 was some way short of the first innings total of 150-7.

In the premier division there was play in three of the six games, but none of the trio reached the halfway stage.

At Clifton, the hosts had made 21 without loss against Easingwold while Sewerby were on 64-3 when entertaining Stamford Bridge, whose Dom Rhodes had claimed 3-21 as Mark Tennant made 26 not out.

At Sheriff Hutton Bridge, the home players used their artillery of mopping up equipment three times as their game against Beverley was interrupted by short sharp showers.

Beverley reached 50 before Anthony Spence was lbw to Eddie Barnes for 19 and then James Fisher fell for four in the same manner to Jordan Grose.

After a third break in play, opener Faisal Abid was caught by keeper Ben Gill off Ben Harrison for 44 but play was ended a few balls later with Beverley on 102-3 after 29 overs.

Two games saw some play in division one, with Malton & Old Malton making 158-6 at Whitkirk before the abandonment came.

Mark Woodliffe hit 37, Will Spencer an unbeaten 37 and Ryan Gaughan 31 not out.

Bridlington reached 23 for the loss of one wicket at Heworth when the game was ended.

There was no play in division two (North), but Hornsea managed to reach 82-3 when entertaining Hull Zingari with Paul Clappison making 41 as Jon Hyde captured 3-45 in division two (South).

Division three (North) was another total blank but play was possible in two games in the South section.

In their home game against Welton & Brough II, Rowntrees & Huntington had lost two wickets for only 28 runs when the weather took control.

Surprisingly, about two miles away, the game at Civil Service progressed into the second half before being abandoned with Pickering showing at 31 without loss.

Earlier, Service had made 178-7 with Chris Lowen making 32 and Graham Sherlock an undefeated 47 as Tim Whincup claimed 3-28.

Just one game was played in division four (West) at Pocklington where Rich Readman made 43 and James Saltmer 28 not out as the hosts reached 151-6 against Woodhouse Grange IV.

There was no play in the central section but the East section was much more active.

In addition to the two games that reached a conclusion, there was play at Brandesburton and Driffield.

The day’s best batting was at Driffield where the home openers, D Warkup (68no) and J Barron (42no) had moved to 129 without loss when the weather ended the entertainment.
