RIVELLINO will go for glory in the £150,000 sprint on All-Weather Championships Finals Day at Lingfield on Friday, writes Steve Carroll.

The improving four-year-old, trained at Middleham by Karl Burke for owner Melba Bryce, put up his best performance last time out in the six-furlong Listed Compare Bookmakers At bookmakers.co.uk Cleves Stakes at Lingfield Park on February 22.

The son of Invincible Spirit was beaten by a head in that Fast-Track Qualifier, after being caught close home by Tarooq, and gained his best-ever rating for the run - 104.

Burke said: “We think we were slightly unlucky. If you watch a re-run of the race, he really quickened half-way around the bend when Danny (Tudhope) asked him to and took off.

“I think he surprised Danny with his turn of foot which pushed them a bit a wide and the winner came up the gap we left on the rail.

“Possibly, if he had held on for another 20 yards and got around the bend, then the result might have been different.

“We think Rivellino can improve a little bit on that. He is maturing all the time and I am hoping he can transfer this winter’s form through the summer as well.”

Rivellino, who has won on two of his last four starts on the All-Weather, will take on 11 rivals in the six-furlong bookmakers.co.uk Sprint.
