JIMMY REID has given his strongest hint yet that he will remain Selby Town’s manager next season.

The former Pickering Town boss who took charge at Flaxley Road late last year following the departure of Ian Dring, initially signed up until the end of the Northern Counties East League first division season.

But, having settled in with the Robins, the ex-Nestlé Rowntree stalwart is considering giving the outfit another season to see if he can bring them back into the premier division.

“I am really thinking about it,” he said. “It would be nice for me and Deano (coach Dean McAuley) to consider another season at Selby.

“It’s another year to have a clean slate and with a set of players that I want to go and get.”

Chief among Reid’s thinking is his desire to leave regional management on his own terms following his abrupt sacking by Pickering last November.

His team are set to travel to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in the league tomorrow and Reid has brought experience into the side by registering McAuley as a player and signing former Pikes favourite Steve Baxter from Tadcaster Albion.

The latter is unavailable for the Worsbrough encounter and Reid said it was a young side that would predominantly represent the club on the run-in.

He added: “I’ve also signed Joe Connor, who was playing for Dringhouses and Pickering last year, and Matty Turnbull, who is coming back from a cruciate injury.

“We will look to get some games out of them before the end of the season and they will be cover players.

“I’m trying to get a lot of players because we have got a lot of games between now and the end of the season.

“I’ve also put a seven-day notice in for Liam Shepherd (former Pickering winger). He will sign on and play in midweek.

“Worsbrough is a tough pitch and a tough place to go. As I keep saying, we are just looking to pick some points up.”

Table-topping Tadcaster Albion know they must keep winning if they are to retain hopes of taking the NCEL premier division title.

With teams around them enjoying games in hand, the Brewers have bounced back from their drubbing by Brighouse Town with back-to-back victories.

Paul Marshall’s men entertain Athersley Recreation at Ings Lane at 3pm. The boss told the club’s website: “We had a tough game when we went to Athersley on that Wednesday night in October.

“They are a well-organised team, and without that penalty, it could have gone either way.

“Our home form has been very good, though, so we’ve got to make sure we capitalise on every home fixture because that’s where we pick up the wins.”

Mitch Cook has admitted he could have done without successive postponements as his Pickering Town team prepare to face Glasshoughton Welfare in the premier division.

Games against Dronfield in the League Cup and against Bridlington Town in the league fell foul of the weather and Cook is desperate for his side to get back into action at the Recreation Ground.

“Lads are still working and we have trained on Tuesday and Thursday night but there is nothing better than playing games,” he said.

“Players can get complacent otherwise and it can take a little time to get back into it.

“We have got to go into the game with the right attitude and, hopefully, we will be better than them.”

The break has meant Joe Danby could recover from an injured ankle and the club’s top scorer should be back.

Elsewhere, Harrogate Town welcome Boston United to Wetherby Road in Conference North. Neighbours Harrogate Railway are not in Evo-Stik first division north action.

Scarborough Athletic are at Newcastle Town in the first division south and Knaresborough Town entertain Eccleshill United in the NCEL first division.
