Changes to The Press racing pages
10:10am Saturday 12th October 2013 in Sport
TIPSTER Tom O’Ryan today lauded a major change to The Press’ horseracing previews.
From Monday, we will switch from predominately covering the following day’s racecards to concentrating on that day’s meetings.
During The Press’ transition from evening to morning paper, afternoon deliveries made it impractical to focus on ‘today’s’ racing.
However, it is now possible to make the switch and O’Ryan believes it will enable him to offer readers an improved service.
“It’s a good result,” said O’Ryan. “I applaud the decision to tweak the racing coverage and write for today and not for tomorrow.
“When you are analysing races and producing tips, the nearer to the meeting you are, the more accurate you can be, even with assessing often quickly changing ground conditions. Plus we can bring readers a more comprehensive coverage of jump racing – governed by 24 hour declarations – through the winter.
“I can’t promise I’ll tip more winners as a result of the change, but now I’ll have one less excuse if I don’t.”
Sports editor Stuart Martel added: “The timing of the change is ideal as York’s Flat season is coming to a close today, and Tom will now be able to concentrate on the major jumps meetings coming up over the next few months.”
