York City Water Polo Club in Yorkshire derby
8:10am Saturday 28th September 2013 in Sport
YORK City Water Polo Club return to National League action today with a Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Dolphins.
The clash starts at Ponds Forge in Sheffield at 11am and is followed by an early morning fixture against Basildon tomorrow.
York enjoyed a fantastic start to their first National League campaign since the 1980s – two victories, lots of goals and a table-topping finish.
An injury sustained during those matches rules captain Paul Floyd out of this weekend, although he will still attend in a coaching capacity.
He said: “It’s certainly frustrating but we have a strong squad travelling and I shall try to help wherever I can.”
Ponds Forge is scheduled to host games from Men’s Leagues One, Two and Five, plus Women’s League Two.
York returned to the Wakefield & District League in midweek with a confident 13-6 win over Huddersfield.
A closely-fought first quarter was soon forgotten as an outstanding penalty save from York ’keeper Andy Morris proved the spark for the club to rediscover their disciplined attacking formations and clinical finishing.
Strong defensive play ensured Huddersfield never really threatened and York scored freely in the final quarter.
