ROSE Grey inspired her Acomb team-mates as she hit two 125s in a 17-dart leg, the best game of the current York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League division one season.
Grey was supported by Lisa Benton, Laura Gatenby and Sammy Endersby as they raced into a 4-2 advantage over visitors Tramways whose Kerry Goodall and captain Sue Lowery scored their points.
Carole Layne and Karen Alton narrowed the gap, but Acomb won the remaining legs for a well-deserved 6-3 win.
Michelle Britton, Lions’ captain, closed on 101 (treble 20 and one double top), for a 24-darter. Burnholme’s Sarah Jackson replied with a 25-dart leg as the teams entered the pairs all-square.
Jackson and Lynne Wilstrop edged the club side in front, then Anne Bass and Muriel Britton set up a decider which saw Sharon Neads and Caroline Whittaker secure match points for Burnholme and put a dent in Lions’ drive for a league champions place.
They will have to settle for the runners-up spot as Cueball ‘B’ secured the title with a 7-2 victory at Severus ‘A’, where Natalie Farmeary, Bev Harton, Lynne Clapham and Tina Platt sealed the win. Davina Shannon was Severus’ best.
Marcia were victors by the same margin at Slipper, whose Doreen Johnstone stopped the rot in the singles and was also victorious in the pairs with Vicky Middleton.
Denise Fowler, Sandra Bruce, Trace Watkinson and Flossy Crampton ensured Magnet went into the pairs in a strong position at Cueball ‘A’. Watkinson and Bruce joined forces to secure the victory, Fowler and Maggie Tottie adding to their tally.
The race for honours in division two is going to the wire as three teams are in contention for the top two places.
Leaders Edinburgh lost the opening leg at Burton WMC as Marianne Deamer won. However, Amanda Bevan, Donna Lynes, Pat Jamieson, Jan Netherwood then Claire Jamieson sealed victory before the club side won the remaining games.
Second-placed Severus ‘B’ were pushed to the limit at Turpin.
Wendy Storr took the opening leg for the club team but Turpin hit back. Sophie Mills, Pam Bielby and Sue Atkin gave them a 3-1 advantage before Dot Sellars and Anne Meek levelled.
In the pairs, Storr and Kelly edged the visitors in front and Bielby and Jo MacPherson set up a decider in which Meek was joined by Sarah Thompson to snatch match points.
Marcia Grey put themselves in contention with a 6-3 win, Emma Barker, Tracey Scurr, Chris Peebles and Anne Allinson winning before Sharon Mountain put Shoulder on the scoresheet. Marcia captain Maggie Bedingham sealed victory.
