CHILDREN'S author Matt Haig has returned to his former hometown of York to inspire the city’s children and tell them the secrets behind his popular books.

Children from Acomb Primary School, Alne Primary School, Clifton Green School and Rufforth Primary School all joined pupils at St Olave’s School to hear a talk from the best-selling author of The Humans and How to Stop Time.

Mr Haig was kicking off his tour promoting his new children’s book, Father Christmas and Me. He signed copies for all children in attendance, before entertaining them with an interactive presentation at St Peter’s School.

The pupils heard the inspirations and secrets behind the author’s acclaimed series of children’s books and through fun games and quizzes, and learned about developing and illustrating the characters in the stories.

Susie Lockett, Librarian at St Olave’s, said: “ To hear from and speak to such a famous author was a real treat for the children, who I’m sure will all have come away with their own original creative ideas.

"I would like to thank Matt for taking the time to come along, sign so many books and inspire us all.2
