TWO lanes of the A64 have been closed following a crash today, causing huge traffic delays.

A Land Rover which was towing a trailer has crashed into the central reservation of the A64 at about 12.50pm.

The crash happened on the A64 close to Barton Hill, near Whitwell.

North Yorkshire Police said the outside lane of the Eastbound and Westbound carriageways had both been closed as a safety precaution, and the volume of traffic meant drivers were experiencing long delays.

Members of the force's Road Policing Group posted this image and message on Twitter following the crash:

Drivers are advised to expect delays, and approach the scene with caution.

A police spokeswoman said nobody was thought to have been injured in the crash, and a recovery vehicle sent to the scene to move the damaged Land Rover and trailer.

The road fully reopened at about 5pm.
