DAVID Gest's ashes are expected to be scattered in York following his London funeral.

There was standing room only for Gest's funeral service at Golders Green Crematorium, north London, this afternoon.

His coffin arrived for the service just before 2pm in a black hearse topped with white lilies and roses before being brought into the chapel by seven pallbearers.

During a tribute by David's sister Barbara Gerber, read out by comedian actress Cleo Rocos best known for starring alongside Kenny Everett, the congregation were in stitches as she told some of her fondest memories of her big brother.

She said that when they were six, he found out where Sonny and Cher lived and after knocking on the door and turning on his charm, they were invited in for cookies.

Guests included Kerry Katona, Dean Gaffney and Vanessa Feltz.

It is expected the ashes of the music producer turned reality television star will be scattered in York.

David told how he was buying a property in York in 2013, as he had fallen in love with the city.

He said then: "When you have the Minster, all other churches fade by comparison, and when you walk through the city, it has an elite beauty, and the people are so special."
