A TOUR de France themed quilt - which has been displayed in a shop window in the city throughout the summer - has raised £770 for charity.

The needlecraft shop on High Petergate challenged York’s quilters to contribute a square each to a Tour de France themed quilt.

Forty-eight crafters took up the challenge and donated a hand-stitched square, along with a charitable donation.

The quilt, which has been on display in the Viking Loom’s shop window since Le Grand Depart, was auctioned off during an Open House at the store.

Romy Cordingley, of The Viking Loom, said: “We wanted to do something crafty to mark the Tour de France coming to York and creating a commemorative quilt seemed like the perfect way to do this. We were overwhelmed by entries".

The money raised will help the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The British Heart Foundation needs more companies and individuals in York to support it.
