THERE’S a chance to become a walking work of art when St Leonard’s Hospice and Martin House Children’s Hospice hold their Colour Me Happy Fun Run at Rawcliffe Country Park on Sunday, September 21.

The event – in which people of all ages can run, walk, skip or even dance their way along a simple five-kilometre course around the park – will see them getting showered in clouds of colour along the route. The day promises to be a riot of colour and family fun.

Entry for the race is adults £20, under-16s £10 and under 5s are free. A family ticket (two adults and two children) is £50. All entry fees include a bright white tee-shirt to wear – and to get coloured – on the day.

All proceeds from the event will be shared equally between St Leonard’s Hospice and Martin House’s Good Night’s Sleep Appeal.

Sue Miller, fundraising manager at St Leonard’s, said: “The Colour Me Happy event will really live up to its name, with everyone taking part being showered with safe, bright colours. It is great fun, with some amazing effects.”

Bookings can be made online at stleonardshospice.org.uk or at martinhouse.org.uk, or call 01904 777777 for a booking form.

Meanwhile, a woollen blanket knitted by a blind woman from York is being raffled to raise funds for St Leonard’s Hospice.

The squares of the blanket have been created by June Mangan from wool donated to the hospice’s furniture shop in Heworth, where a Knitters and Natterers group meets each Tuesday.

The squares have been sewn together by June’s friend Ann Marie Knowles, who is a member of the group.

To win the blanket, visitors to the shop at The Village, Heworth, can choose one or more of the 100 numbered squares on a game board, paying £1 for each square.

When the raffle closes on September 20, the winning number, which has already been chosen at random and placed in a sealed envelope, will be revealed and the person holding that number wins the blanket.

Maria Aebi, manager of the Heworth shop, said: “June has created a wonderful blanket from our donated wool; we are really grateful to her and to Ann Marie for their generosity in allowing us to auction it to raise funds for the hospice. We urge everyone to come along to see the work that they have put in, and sign up for one of the squares on the raffle board.”
