SCORES of people joined a York rally against Israeli military action in Gaza yesterday.

The demonstration, organised by the York branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, started at the Minster at noon.

Protestors, including York MP Hugh Bayley, then moved through the city streets showing their support for Palestinian people, before finishing back at the Minster.

Similar protests took place across the UK with as many as 15,000 people expected to march in London from Downing Street to the Israeli embassy in Kensington.

Sarah Colborne, the national director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, said: "Today's national demonstration will give people from across the country the chance to say enough is enough, Israel's siege of Gaza and its occupation of Palestinian land has to end now."
