STAFF at schools, hospitals, councils and fire stations across York, North and East Yorkshire will take part in a one-day strike on Thursday.
Services run by local authorities including schools, libraries, leisure centres, day centres for the elderly and waste collections will be hit.
The day of action includes members of the NUT, GMB, Unison and Unite as well as the Fire Brigades Union and is over a public sector pay freeze which was introduced in 2010.
Of the state schools in York, 22 have confirmed some or all classes will be affected, with 36 fully open, and three have yet to tell the council of their intentions.
Five York primary schools will be completely closed:
- Hob Moor Primary School
- Hob Moor Oaks Special School
- Knavesmire Primary School
- Westfield Primary School
- Yearsley Grove Primary School.
Five of the city's secondary schools are expecting to be open as usual but Archbishop Holgate's CE Academy, Joseph Rowntree School, Applefields Special School, York High and Millthorpe School have said they will only be partially open.
Twelve primary schools are also expecting to be partially closed:
- Archbishop of York's CE Junior
- Bishopthorpe Infant
- Copmanthorpe
- Fishergate
- Headlands
- Huntington
- Lakeside
- Lord Deramore's
- Naburn
- Park Grove
- Poppleton Road
- Stockton on the Forest
Poppleton Ousebank will be closed for training as planned.
There are more than 23,000 pupils in York schools including academy schools and those run in partnership arrangements with outside bodies such as the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church.
Kersten England, chief executive of City of York Council, said: “Whilst we are expecting a certain amount of disruption, our priority is to minimise this and ensure all life and limb services remain open. We have contingency measures in place to ensure that this happens."
In North Yorkshire schools fully closed include:
- Barlby High School
- Lady Lumley's School in Pickering
- Selby High School
- Thorpe Willoughby Primary
- East Whitby Community Primary
Those partially closed include:
- Boroughbridge Primary School
- Brayton High School
- Carlton and Faceby CE School
- Carlton-in-Snaith
- Catterick Garrison
- Le Cateau Primary School at Catterick Garrison
- Filey CE Infant School
- Hunmanby Primary
- Malton School
- Marton-Cum-Grafton CE Primary
- Monk Fryston CE Primary
- Pickering Infant School
- Stillington Primary School
- Tadcaster Riverside Primary School
- Whitby Community College
- Whitby Airy Hill Community Primary School
- Willow Tree Community Primary School.
Those on strike in York and North Yorkshire were expected to meet at Clifford's Tower in York at 12pm today before a rally in St Sampson's Square at 1pm.
In the East Riding Council area, partly-closed schools are:
- Pocklington Infant
- The Market Weighton School
- Woldgate College
- Beverley Grammar and Beverley High
- Driffield School
- Driffield Juniors
- Goole High
Beverley Manor Nursery will be fully closed.
