CITY of York Council has welcomed a national report which praised York for its commitment to getting a living wage for everyone in the city.

The report issued this week by the Living Wage commission, recognised York as a great example of areas outside of London with a thriving Living Wage Campaign and also praised the partnership work between the council, businesses and the voluntary sector to provide a living wage.

Efforts to make York a Living Wage City began after recommendations made by the York Fairness Commission in their report released in September 2012.

Both the Archbishop of York and the council leader have welcomed the Living Wage commission’s praise for York.
