YORKSHIRE supermarket chain Morrisons has announced its planned management shake-up will see the loss of 2,600 jobs.
The firm started discussion with staff yesterday over a “simpler’” management structure, which forms the next steps in its modernisation programme.
Dalton Philips, chief executive at Morrisons, which is based in Bradford and has stores in Foss Islands and Acomb as well as a convenience store in Spurriergate, said: “These changes will improve our focus on customers and lead to simpler, smarter ways of working.
“We know that moving to the new management structure will mean uncertainty for our colleagues and we will be supporting them through the process.”
The company has said it is looking to offer staff affected by the cuts the opportunity to work in growing areas of the business. which include Morrisons M local convenience stores, were 1,000 jobs are to be created this year, as well as new supermarkets which are set to create 3,000 jobs in 2014.
