NORTH YORKSHIRE county councillors have called for another chance to examine plans for a waste incinerator in the county.
Plans for Allerton Park Waste Recovery Plant are currently in limbo after government funding was withdrawn, leaving the contractor AmeyCespa to look for alternative investment.
And last week the county council's Harrogate area committee agreed that the final decision on whether the scheme should still go ahead should be taken by the full council, rather than the county council's executive.
The committee approved a motion asking for it to go to a full meeting of the council, and have also asked for a working party initially set up to examine the project to be reformed.
Committee chairman Cllr Michael Harrison said much had changed in the four years since the project was first agreed that councillors needed to review the plans.
The project was first approved by North Yorkshire County Council as long ago as 2010, and the site gained planning permission in 2012, but it has been mired in controversy ever since with a legal challenge by protestors, and the announcement in February last year that DEFRA was withdrawing funding for the plans.
