The solicitor forced to abandon a 100 kilometre trek for charity with a broken leg will make his second attempt to achieve the endurance feat this weekend.

Colin Byrne had completed 80 km of the circular Trailtrekkers route over the Yorkshire Three Peaks last June when he developed a stress fracture in his tibia and doctors told him to stop. He had been walking for 22 hours and 29 minutes as part of a four-man team.

As the York solicitor started a month on crutches he vowed to be back for the 2014 Trailtrekker challenge- and this time complete it.

Tomorrow morning (May 31), with his leg fully recovered, he will line up with a new team on the start line near Skipton.

"I have to finish," he said. "I'm 100 per cent ready. I feel I am in pretty good condition. I haven't over trained and I am confident we are going to do it. But it is going to be really, really difficult."

He tried to get the same team together as last year but each of the other three, two of whom are triathletes told him: "I am not doing that again."

So he will be accompanied by three more friends, Kevin Webb, Mark Golding and Christian Hall, as The Fools team.

All the money raised will go to Oxfam. Last year, he raised £2,116.
