HIGH School Musical came to the streets of York yesterday when a flashmob hit Parliament Street.

The cast of York Light Youth's production of the hit show gathered secretly outside the Disney Store when the streets were busy with Bank Holiday shoppers, and burst into song.

A crowd gathered as they performed "We're all in this together" and onlookers filmed the performance on their mobile phones.

Choreographer Chloe Shipley said the performance was the boost her dancers needed ahead of a dress rehearsal that evening.

"It went really well, and I am really pleased with them. A lot of people stopped to watch, which was great as we didn't know what to expect with it being a Bank Holiday Monday."

The curtain goes up on High School Musical at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre this evening [Tuesday] at 7.30pm, and the show runs every evening until Saturday with a Saturday 2.30pm matinee.
