THE quest to find the kings and queens of castle building among youngsters in York is reaching its finale with a vote for who should get the Lego crown.

York Castle Museum challenged boys and girls aged 16 and under to build their most ambitious and imaginative Lego castle, and email pictures ahead of half term.

The entries were split into three categories; seven year olds and under, eight to 12 year olds and 13 to 16 year olds, with a winner in each chosen.

This week the three winning castles are on display in the museum, with the thousands of visitors during the school break being asked to vote for an overall winner

Lucy Knock, assistant curator of history learning, said: “We thought it would be a fun idea to put a challenge to the Lego builders of Yorkshire and beyond to see who can come up with the most ambitious and extravagant Lego castle.”

Over the May half term visitors will also be able to play with Lego and Duplo in the Workhouse learning room, while in the Castle Kitchen there will also be the chance to try Lego Jelly.

Construction toys from the museum’s collections will also be on display in the Toy Stories exhibition.
