A MAN had his jaw broken in a late night assault in York.

The 23 year old man, from Liverpool, was walking from the city centre to Windsor Street in the early hours of Saturday morning when he was attacked.

Police said the man is a visitor and does not know the city, but was heading to where he was staying after a night out.

PC Mark Roberts of the Safer Neighbourhood Service Desk, said: “The difficulty we have is that the victim does not know York, the location of the assault, or the name of the last venue he was in, which means we can’t be specific in our appeal for information.

“Therefore any information from members of the public who can recall a disturbance in the street anywhere between the city centre and Windsor Street, is vital to our investigation. If anyone can assist our appeal, we urge them to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Police want to here from anyone who saw or heard an altercation in any of the streets between York city centre and Windsor Street, near Bishopthorpe Road, between 2-3am on Saturday, May 17.

The victim is around 6ft tall and was wearing dark clothing and a cap at the time.

He went to hospital at home in Liverpool, and has since had to have surgery to repair his broken jaw.

Anyone with any information which could help the police investigation is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Safer Neighbourhood Service Desk.
