A DAD-OF-TWO from York who was left in a coma after a horrific motorbike crash in Thailand could be flown home soon after his family raised thousands of pounds.

Chris Moulds, 39, has been in a coma in intensive care since his accident six weeks ago near Pattaya.

He moved to the country with his wife Alice and their two children Nicholas, five, and 17-month-old Isobel last year.

As the former Tadcaster Grammar School pupil did not have medical insurance, his treatment is a huge drain on his family's finances and is costing them £1,000 a day.

An appeal to raise £30,000 - the cost of getting Chris back to England - has already raised more than £16,000.

His mother Sandra Harper, 63, who lives in Driffield, is currently with the family in Thailand, and hopes his wife and children, who do not have British passports, can be brought to the UK so they can be better supported as Chris recovers .

She said: "He is showing signs of improvement every day, the good things like he recognises when we speak his name. I'm still trying to get visas and documents ready to bring my grandchildren and daughter-in-law home.

"Although the British Embassy are helping us, an emergency visa will still take two weeks.

"As far as Chris is concerned - he is slowly coming back to us."

Chris was born at Westow Croft outside Malton and lived in Huby near Easingwold, then Copmanthorpe, and attended Tadcaster Grammar School.

Before moving to Thailand he lived in China, where he met Alice, who he married six years ago.

His sister Angela Bean said: "The money people have given will make a massive difference to our lives. This is a huge disaster for our family."

She added: "My mum has now returned to Thailand to be with my brother and his wife and children, hoping every day he will wake up. But we dare to dream and where there is breath there is hope."
