A YORK woman has completed the millionth blind taste test for national supermarket brand Asda.

The brand came to York to host a taste testing session for its Chosen By You range, giving members of the public the opportunity to sample some of its latest products and decide what will make it onto the shelves.

Clare Moffatt from York became the one millionth person to take part in the taste testing, since Chosen By You was relaunched in 2010.

Marking the milestone, Clare sampled Asda’s Millionaire’s Shortbread, along with a range of other sweet and savoury products, including chocolate orange gateau, double choc doughnuts, chicken and prawn paella and chicken fillets with ham and leek.

Clare said: “It was an honour to be millionth taste tester and part of this little bit of history.

“I think it’s great that the views of normal customers like me help to decide what goes on sale in Asda’s stores.

“When you take a step back, iIt’s actually quite astounding to think that a million people have taken part.”

At the time of the millionth taste test, Asda has evaluated more than 17,000 products in more than 170 towns and cities across the UK, with in excess of 170,000 people taking part in the testing programme.

All of Asda’s Chosen by You products are put through a blind taste test carried out by independent company, Cambridge Market Research.

The taste testers are recruited under strict guidelines and must be buyers of products in the category they are sampling.
