A PROJECT to commemorate the centenary of the First World War will see volunteers plant hundreds of poppies in York tomorrow.

So far, the Poppy Road Poppy Project has raised more than £4,130 for the project, and volunteers from the will be planting seeds next to the Fox Inn and opposite CPP throughout Saturday.

Clea Grady from the project said: "Support has been tremendous – with one volunteer almost single-handedly growing 2,500 poppy plugs for the meadows on the windowsills of CPP!

"The idea is that people can come along for as long as they like – be that half an hour or the whole day. We are expecting children from Poppleton Road School, scouts, guides, neighbours and friends. The Blue and Green watch from Acomb Fire Station will arrive around 6pm to water the beds for us!"

A list of donors and details on how to donate are available on the project's website, poppyroadpoppyproject.org

All are welcome to help plant the poppy seeds, which will start to flower this summer, tomorrow between 10am and 4pm.
