THREE new classrooms are to built at a York school so it can teach 90 more pupils.

City of York Council has approved the plans for Carr Junior School, on Ostman Road, which has a current pupil capacity of 270 but wants to expand this to 360. The initial phase of work will involve building two singe-story extensions, with a one-storey classroom unit connected to the main building being constructed in the second stage.

The move comes as demand for school places in west York rises, with plans in place to rebuild the neighbouring Carr Infant School on its existing site.
