PUPILS, teachers and parents have undertaken their Sport Relief challenge in a bid to raise funds for vulnerable people in the UK and around the world.

Among those getting involved were students dressed as nuns at Tadcaster Grammar school and young bakers at St Lawrences Primary School.

Thousands of others are preparing for their own sponsored mile-run, swim and even hops at a series of events across York, North and East Yorkshire this weekend.

This year’s Sport Relief, organised by Comic Relief in association with BBC Sport, is bringing together people of all generations and abilities in a bid to beat the £60 million raised in 2012.

Other events taking place this weekend are:

Today, Saturday:

Yearsley Pool’s three-day swimathon has already sold out but Energise in Acomb is hosting a swimathon which people can enter as an individual or as a team.

On Sunday:

The inclusive Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile will take place at Rawcliffe park from 10.30am to 1.30pm.

You can also run a mile at Lower Derwent Sports and Social Club in Elvington from 10.30am to 4pm.

Tadcaster Grammar School also organises a “Run a mile” event in the school’s playing field from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

In Selby, you can run a mile on the Rugby Union Club’s grounds between 1pm and 4pm.

The Malton mile is hosted by the Malton Community Sports Centre which will also stage multi-sport sessions and face painting. The event will run from 10am to 2pm.
