More details have emerged of the crash that caused traffic chaos on the York Outer Ring Road at Rawcliffe and put a 21-year-old woman in hospital.
Firefighters had to rescue the woman from West Yorkshire from her Vauxhall Corsa after it crashed into an HGV at the A19/A1237 roundabout.
Police declined to comment on a report that the car had failed to stop, saying only that the circumstances of the crash were under investigation..
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called to the crash, but were not needed, as the woman was taken to hospital by road ambulance after treatment from paramedics at the scene.
The two vehicles collided at the roundabout where Shipton Road, the main route north out of the city meets the A1237 ring road , Westbound traffic was diverted down Shipton Road, through the Rawcliffe Park&Ride and back onto the roundabout while emergency services dealt with the crash and cleared the road.
A police tweet by SNA York West had suggested a chase could have been involved, with a picture of the vehicle and a message reading, "This vehicle 'Failed To Stop', and crashed a short time later on the A1237 at the A19. Harsh lesson for the driver."
However, a North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman was unable to confirm there had been a chase, saying that the "circumstances around the collision were being investigated."
