YORK'S Imphal Barracks has played host to a Gurkha curry evening in aid of the Lord Mayor’s charities.
The event, which has been well supported by Signal 2 Regiment for many years, saw Gurkha chefs cook a selection of traditional Nepalese curries.
Guests also enjoyed the chance to see Nepalese entertainment, including traditional folk dancing and the Kukri dance, a display of drill using the Nepalese weapon the Khukuri.
The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of York Cllr Barbra Boyce said: “I would like to once again thank 2 Signal Regiment for the excellent hospitality they showed guests and the Civic Party. They hosted a wonderful event with some very tasty Nepalese food on offer from top quality Gurkha chefs.
"It was also a great honour to give the vote of thanks to the regiment and the caterers. We hope that another similar event may be possible before the end of our civic year.
"The Gurkhas are incredible people and it is a great honour that they and their families have been present in York for so many years."
Money raised by the evening will go the Lord Mayor's charities, which this year are Refugee Action York, Hearing Dogs for the Deaf and Age UK York's Keep Your Pet service.
