A YOUNG girl from York is preparing to cut her hair for charity.
Nine-year-old Olivia Rennie, from Acomb, will shave her head at Tease Hairdressing in Wains Grove, York, on August 5, but Olivia's mother April said it will not be the first time.
April said: "It started a couple of years ago when she first cut her hair as a friend's little girl had leukaemia and lost her hair through chemotherapy.
"I'm incredibly proud of her. A couple of years ago when she was seven it was her idea to do it and after she had it cut one of the first things she said was 'can we do it again'. We just had to wait until now for her hair to grow back."
Olivia's friend made a full recovery, and
April said: "We didn't ask for sponsorship or anything like that last time, but this time we decided we wanted to raise money as well and two charities we picked are the Little Princess Trust - where her hair will be going - and the York Special Care Baby Unit, because Olivia was a SCBU baby."
Olivia hopes to raise "a couple of hundred pounds" in sponsorship, with forms placed at Hob Moor School and at the salon for people to donate, and April said she had been researching her new look.
She said: "What she's chosen to have done is what's called a pixie cut, so she's been looking at photos online and she likes Penny from Big Bang Theory, when she had her hair short, so she's going for that."
