MOVE aside ‘glamping’ as ‘champing’ is the latest twist on traditional camping holidays available in the region.

Champing is the unique concept of camping overnight in historic churches and has been introduced by The Churches Conservation Trust.

The latest church to welcome Champers is St Stephen’s Old Church in Fylingdales, North Yorkshire.

The concept has proved popular with couples, families and special interest groups; all looking for adventure and a memorable camping experience.

Camp beds are set up inside the church, with a cosy sitting area, complete with rugs and cushions.

All guests need to bring is bedding and maybe a bottle of wine.

The church is for the exclusive use of each group, be that a couple or a larger group of friends.

  • Bookings can now be made at www.champing.co.uk and the Champing season runs from March 31 to September 30.
  • Revenue raised from champing goes back into helping preserve and protect the country's churches.
