Crash causes long delays for Christmas shoppers heading home
The A19 has reopened after an accident that caused long tailbacks of traffic leaving York city centre.
Selby Road just south of York was closed at its junction with the B1222 Naburn Lane and the southbound carriageway of Fulford Road was for a time at a a standstill throughout its length
Police urged motorists to avoid the area while they deal with the incident.
York city centre has been crowded all day with shoppers buying Christmas presents and admiring the ice sculptures in the annual Ice Festival.
