VILLAGERS were left baffled, when a snowman appeared despite no snow having fallen near their homes.

But the creation, outside the home of Joanne and Nick Reynolds and their four daughters in Longridge Lane, Poppleton, was not an illusion.

Snowy was in fact brought back from the North Yorkshire moors by Mr Reynolds, 48 - because there was no snow at home and the children didn’t want to leave him behind.

Kacey, nine; Heidi, seven; Maisy, five; and Erin, four put the snowman into their dad's van, and gave him a new home in Poppleton.

Mrs Reynolds, 46, who runs Poppleton Landscapes with her husband, said: “They built a snowman and brought the snowman home by dismantling him and rolling him into their dad’s van.

“We could not believe the response. People have been coming taking photographs. People have been going out of their way to see it.”

Mr Reynolds had promised his daughters they would go sledging once the snow came, but when it never did he said he would take them to the snow instead.

Together on Sunday they went up to the moors for a day out and built Snowy.

Since bringing him back to his new home on their front lawn, passers-by have been scratching their heads wondering where he came from.

“One woman asked if it was real snow,” said Mrs Reynolds, “We have just had comments galore. It’s just brought a lot of joy to Poppleton.”

She added: “There are lots of school children that go past and they just stop and stare.”
