A 82-YEAR-OLD man has been rescued from the River Foss in the early hours of this morning.
The man was reported missing from his home at the same time as North Yorkshire Police were alerted to a report of an elderly man in the River Foss close to Navigation Road.
He was found in the river at 5.40am and helped out by police officers, Inspector Martin Wedgewood said.
It is unclear how and why he came to be in the river.
The man was taken to York Hospital by ambulance and is not believed to be in a life threatening condition.
