A MAN with autism is breaking down barriers to his disability by making jewellery.

Liam Brunskill, 20, is now selling his handmade creations to raise money for autism charities after learning the skills at school.

The first event will take place tomorrow at Clifton Moor Church and Community Centre, on Rivelin Way.

Visitors will be greeted with a choice of handmade bracelets and necklaces, all created by Liam.

He has been encouraged to pursue his passion for creativity by his mum, Mandy, who now hopes to get others involved by setting up her own website in the coming weeks.

Mandy, 51, said: "Liam can make this in a quiet and safe environment instead of being stuck at home doing nothing.

"He's very creative with colours and he started using beads at his college in Doncaster, and it went from there.

"I want to make this available for people that are leaving school, and show them they can use skills and they can do something they enjoy.

"When they turn 18 they are suddenly adults and parents don't realise what future they've got."

Liam started making jewellery at school and Mandy says she noticed an immediate reaction in her son.

She added: "You can tell when he smiles that he enjoys doing it, and he smiles when I wear them.

"We are trying to raise more awareness of autism and I have asked the National Autistic Society to send some leaflets we can put out.

"Hopefully we can do some things to get adults with autism creating more."

Doors open from 2pm to 6pm with clothing, gifts and cards all on sale throughout the afternoon.

Anyone wishing to buy items can only pay by cash.
