THE number of potholes fixed on streets in York has put the city high up in a national league.

National website fillthathole.org.uk shows York in 19th position out of 214 local councils, having filled 1162 potholes out of 1,200 reported, a 97 per cent completion rate.

Labour Westfield councillor Steve Burton said: “Despite huge pressure from ongoing Conservative-Liberal Democrat Government funding cuts, this shows that through effective working and with an extra £2m capital investment, the Labour council is maintaining an excellent service in an area we know is consistently a high priority for residents.”

“Streets such as Vesper Drive and Green Lane in Westfield ward have already or are soon set to benefit from road resurfacing and pavement repairs which is great news. I’m pleased to see the ward getting its fair share of money for such improvements”.

Of other neighbouring councils North Yorkshire features at 87th position with a 26 per cent completion rate and East Riding 198th out of 214, with an 11 per cent completion rate.
