A YORK charity is celebrating after receiving a cash boost.

Brunswick Organic Nursery, based in Appleton Road, Bishopthorpe, has been presented with a cheque for £1,000 by York Ainsty Rotary Club.

Adam Myers, manager of the nursery, said: “We are delighted by this donation from York Ainsty Rotary Club, it gives a huge boost to our fundraising.

"As funding for charities like ours gets squeezed due to cutbacks in social services, we need to look at every way we save money or increase our income to survive. We have set up a weekend cafe at the nursery which complements our nursery shop and we are getting very good feedback and increasing numbers of customers. Our next step is increasing the number of polytunnels we have.

“More land under cover means we can raise more valuable crops and plants. We have already put up one new tunnel funded by our own fundraising efforts, but we are now fundraising for a larger tunnel. This will cost us £7,000. This donation from the Rotary Club gives a great kick start to this fundraising appeal.”

If you would like to contribute to the appeal, or know individuals, companies or trusts that might like to support this green growing local charity, then contact them by email at admin@brunswickyork.org.uk or phone 01904 701869, or by post at Brunswick Organic Nursery, Appleton Road, Bishopthorpe York YO23 2RF.

The shop is open from 10am to 5pm seven days a week. The cafe is open on weekends and bank holidays only, from 11am to 4pm.
