A TEENAGER has been sexually assaulted at a nightclub in North Yorkshire.

The 18-year-old woman was outside Club Amadeus in Elder Road, Northallerton, when she was attacked between midnight and 2.30am on Sunday, police said today.

Detectives called the attack a serious sexual assault and believe there are a number of people who were in and around the club at the time who may have information that can help their enquiries.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "In particular, a number of people who assisted the woman in the nightclub’s foyer following the incident are urged to come forward.

Police would also like to speak to anyone who saw a young woman in distress outside Club Amadeus in the early hours of Sunday morning to get in touch."

The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.

Two 20-year-old men have been arrested and remain in police custody for questioning.

Superintendent Amanda Oliver, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “It is very unusual for something like this to happen in such a small community.

“The victim is understandably extremely upset by what has happened to her and we are doing everything we can to offer her the support she needs at this time.

“I would like to thank the people who assisted her following the incident and ask them to come forward with any information that can help us with this investigation.

“I would also like to appeal to anyone who saw anything in the club or when they were leaving to contact me if they can assist with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is urged to phone Wayne Fox at North Yorkshire Police on 101, email wayne.fox@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
