POLICE have named the man who died of stab wounds in North Yorkshire as 44-year-old Mark Leslie John Berney.

Mr Berney, from Knaresborough, was found in a car at an address in Whipley Bank, Ripley, near Harrogate, at 9.30pm on Sunday.

North Yorkshire Police closed the B6165 to allow investigations and searches at the scene. It reopened yesterday, and a police spokesman thanked local residents who were disrupted by the operation for their patience.

A 40-year-old man from Harrogate was arrested after handing himself in to Greater Manchester Police at 2.40am on Monday, and remains in police custody for questioning while enquiries continue.

Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, Head of the Major Crime Unit, said: "At this time we are not looking for another person or anticipate further arrests in connection with the case."

Anyone with information should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and ask for the Major Crime Unit, or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
